Thesis eth zurich

Short essay description
Building a quantum computer able to solve real-world problems is facing several challenges, both in software and hardware. Some of these challenges are the physical implementation of a large number of qubits, as well as qubit quality and control. This thesis addresses one of the outstanding challenges - the automated initialisation of solid-state qubits. These qubit types, which encode information in charge, spin or topologically protected quasiparticle states, are based on electrostatically defined quantum dots. In order to define quantum dots, suitable gate voltage combinations need to be determined and several parameters such as the inter-dot tunnel coupling adjusted to desired values. With growing device complexity and an increasing number of devices required for measurements, a manual approach to tuning is impractical.

PhD Theses – Trapped Ion Quantum Information Group | ETH Zurich

The Systems Group has a variety of projects available, as possible topics for a Masters Thesis, a Semester Projects, or as labs for bachelors or masters students. Thanks to its very low latency, RDMA is increasingly adopted to build systems such as key-values stores or in-memory data stores. However, it is non-trivial to implement systems that take full advantage of the RDMA. In existing applications it is common that data is either transformed before transmission or after reception leading to additional data copies and overhead.

We are offering a highly interesting research agenda for students with a strong quantitative background in data-driven research. Interested candidates should ideally bring experience in R, Python or other programming languages. We are especially aware of the teaching scope at MTEC and adapt our topics to ensure that we can leverage domain-specific expertise. Beyond that, we also have a range of management-focused topics that aim at better qualitative understanding the recent wave of analytics from a management point of view.
