What to put in the objectives section of a resume

Short essay description
Hiring managers typically receive numerous resumes for job openings that they advertise. Often, a hiring manager will be looking for words or phrases in your resume that are applicable to the job, or else they might be inclined to place your resume in their rejected pile. Your task with your career goals and objectives section is to make the hiring manager want to read further, to learn more about you. Your career goals should outline in one or two sentences where you want your career to go. The career goals you describe should be attention-grabbing to keep the hiring manager's attention and should accurately outline not only what you believe to be your best qualities, but how they fit in with the company's objectives. For instance, your career goal might be, "To build a career in the private or public sector as a Ruby on Rails developer, bringing my years of experience, advanced programming knowledge, adaptability and attention to detail to the organization.

The Do’s & Don’ts for Your Resume Objective

Resume Objective Examples: Dos and Don’ts

Physical therapists work to help improve mobility and strength or to possibly help reduce the pain that individuals might suffer due to an injury or disability. As your resume objective will likely be the first impression a prospective employer has of you and your job qualifications, making sure that your objectives are well-written and concise can help you to stand out among the other applicants. Physical therapists must have a wide range of knowledge in many areas to be considered competent and experienced in their field. Some typical job responsibilities include administering basic manual exercises, evaluating treatment effectiveness, evaluating the fit of orthotic devices, and repairing medical support devices. Your objective should highlight the specialized knowledge and experiences that you have gained in these areas, as well as your ability to establish a friendly rapport with patients, your ability to create effective treatment plans, and your passion for the job. When writing your resume objectives, let the employer know that you have a genuine interest in working for their company by using their company name.

Resume Sections: What You Need and Where You Need Them

A resume objective statement is a short paragraph often included at the top of a resume. Not to be confused with a summary statement, the objective statement is used less often due to its many notable pitfalls. However, at the right place and time, the once-popular objective statement still has its purpose. A resume objective statement introduces a resume to the hiring manager.
Trends are common in fashion, music, food, and, yes, even resumes. Historically, entry-level objectives explained to a hiring manager what your ultimate goal was in your job search. Therefore, it was especially necessary to include resume objectives when job seekers were changing industries or targeting specific jobs or positions. Entry-level job seekers would include a resume objective, regardless. A career summary, however, is more practical in that it tells a hiring manager about your professional qualifications and background.
